Our 2016-2017 Season

Welcome to the Loosey Goosey Group’s 28th year! Our membership is comprised of local and visiting seniors who enjoy skiing and riding together at local resorts. To help extend and celebrate the joys of on-mountain winter sports, our group organizes weekly “off-mountain” apres ski parties where members can gather and share the many joys of life here in Summit County’s high country. The popular potluck parties are held most Thursdays December through March.

Member Recognition

As the season winds down, members are asked to submit their recommendations for recipients of the Most Improved Skier Award and the Will and Lil Award. The first is self-explanatory; the second is named for early founders who represented the welcoming, helpful attitude that has always been the admired spirit of the Loosey Goosey Group. For the 2015-16 season, Terry Principe received the Most Improved Skier Award, and Marian and Bob Giordano, who, along with helping/welcoming everyone, have also guided, hosted, and helped organize us for years, earned the Will and Lil Award. This year nominations due March 2 & Awards will be presented on March 16.

Aprés Ski Parties

All aprés ski parties are potluck and are held at the Summit County Community & Senior Center on County Rd. 1004 in Frisco, with parties on Thursdays from 3 – 5 p.m. starting Dec. 1, but none on Dec. 22 and 29 and it will be Tues. Jan. 24. No matter where you ski or ride that day, come join us and bring a potluck hors d’oeuvre, dessert, or beverage to share. Sharing yummy food, a drink, and your adventures with like-minded folks is a great way to make new friends and keep from getting old!

These gatherings are dependent, not only on the food/drink you bring, but also, as noted above, on your eagerness to do your share and volunteer. Eight to ten friendly volunteer hosts are needed to assist the Party Coordinators in the setup and takedown of the tables and chairs, keep the food tables neat, and visit with the other members.

Additionally, our Reception Coordinators, Mary Parrott and Nancy Mooney, need your help to assist with the new SCCSC policy that requires weekly sign-ins by all who attend.

Finally, these special events provide the opportunity for you to express your appreciation
to the guides who volunteer at Senior Ski Day pr
ograms sponsored by local resorts.

Membership and Dues News

In 2016,  Loosey Goosey Group joined the Summit County Senior Center in the Summit County Community and Senior Center in Frisco, the site of our weekly Aprés Ski parties. As a result of our new affiliation, LGG members must also be members of the SCSC. Applications for SCSC have LGG information and are available in the office and online at: http://www.summitcountyco.gov/DocumentCenter/View/16869

Dues for the SCSC are $15 and $20 for LGG. Additionally, all members must sign-in before each party. Out-of-town guests will be welcomed on their initial visit, but will be expected to join both organizations to continue to attend. Your dues pays for the cost of renting the rooms for the weekly parties, party supplies, some of the liquid refreshments, and all of the Annual Membership Party and A-Basin Beach Party.

Run entirely on volunteer power, LGG asks every member to help in any of a variety of ways.
1) Be a host at one of the Apres Ski parties. Duties include arriving early to set up the tables
and staying a little later to put everything away. During the party you make sure that water
pitchers are full and the food tables stay neat, not to mention welcoming newcomers and
enjoying the company of “old” friends ! (8-10 members needed each week)
2) Help staff the reception desk: Every member must sign in at each party, so every week 3-
4 members are needed to greet and facilitate this. Sound like a good fit for you?
3) When you ski or ride with members keep an eye out for who’s showing the most
improvement and who’s being most helpful/friendly. The group will recognize these
individuals at the end of the season.
