Our 30th Year - the 2018 - 2019 Season

Membership and Dues News

The apres ski parties are held every Thursday at the SCCSC on County Road 1004 in Frisco from 3 – 5 starting December 6. No matter where they ski or ride that day, members bring a pot luck hors d’oeuvre, dessert or beverage to share as they gather to share adventures with old and new friends.

The
new guest policy for 2018-19 is as follows below and replaces the previous policy of allowing guests one free admission. This new policy is being implemented due to many abuses of the old one. For example, several people have either signed in as free guests multiple times and/or passed by our guest registration desk into the room, even though our members have made their best efforts to stop all non-members.

“Effective for the 2018-19 season, any non-members wishing to attend one Thursday Loosey Goosey function as guests, will pay $5.00 each. Thereafter, they will need to become members of both the SCCSC ($15) and Loosey Goosey ($20) in order to attend future events. The $5.00 will be applied to the annual membership dues.”

NOTE: the exception to this policy will be the annual Keystone/Breck recognition party in which all Guides will receive a free invitation and not be required to join the LGG or the SCCSC.

It’s also important to add that the administration of the new policy will be handled by Jeanne Belli and Bill Tracy as the registration chairpersons of the Loosey Goosey Thursday events. They will handle the money and create a corresponding spreadsheet. They will collect the $5.00/pp and IF the guest decides to join both the SCCSC and Loosey Goosey, they will return their money, and the guest can use it toward their memberships. There will be NO administrative involvement by the SCCSC.

The LGG dues pay for the cost of renting the rooms for the weekly parties, party supplies, some of the liquid refreshments, and all of the Annual Membership Party.

Run totally by volunteers, the LGG asks all members to help out in a variety of ways:

1) Be a host at one of the Après Ski parties (8 – 10 each week). Duties include arriving early to set up the tables and staying a little later to put everything away. During the party you make sure that water pitchers are full and the food tables stay neat, not to mention welcoming newcomers and enjoying the company of “old” friends!

2) Since every member must now sign-in at each party, 3-4 members are needed to greet and facilitate this each week.

3) When you ski or board and “apres” with the group, keep an eye out for who’s showing the most improvement and who’s being most helpful/friendly. At the end of the season, LGG recognizes the Most Improved Skier/Boarder and presents the Nancy Macey Spirit Award to the person(s) who have best represented the warmth, energy, and enthusiasm of founding member Nancy Macey.

Other Ways to be Involved

Many LGG members enjoy sharing their enthusiasm for winter sports with others by volunteering, and the Summit County area offers abundant opportunities. If after you’ve signed up to help at an LGG gathering, you have more time to share, the following list may help:

Summit County Community and Senior Center – check their newsletter – opportunities abound – Contact summitseniorcenter.com ; 970-668-2940

Senior Winter Games –this awesome fundraiser (see photos and story nearby) was created and is manned entirely by volunteers, so opportunities abound.

Niki Vincze, at the SCCSC has a sign-up book for the various committees.

You can also contact Cathy Sapp  for the names of specific committee leaders.

Recognition

As the season winds down, members are asked to submit their recommendations for recipients of the Most Improved Skier Award and the Nancy Macey Spirit Award. The first is self-explanatory; the second is named for an early founder who represented the welcoming, helpful attitude that has always been the admired spirit of the Loosey Goosey Group. For the 2017-18 season, Connie Midyette received the Most Improved Skier Award, and Dan and Cathy Schweitzer, who, along with helping/welcoming everyone, have also guided, hosted, and helped
organize us for years, earned the Nancy Macey Spirit Award.

Last spring the Loosey Goosey Group also recognized past award winners with their own plaques.
