Membership and Dues News

In 2016 we joined the Summit County Community and Senior Center in Frisco, the site of our weekly Après Ski parties. As a result of that, Loosey Goosey members must also be members of the SCCSC.

Dues for the SCCSC are $15 and $20 for LGG. Additionally, all members must sign-in before each party. Out-of-town guests will be welcomed on their initial visit but will be expected to join both organizations to continue to attend. Your dues pay for the cost of renting the rooms for the weekly parties, party supplies, some of the liquid refreshments, and all of the Annual Membership Party and A-Basin Beach Party.
Run totally by volunteers, the LGG asks all members to help out in a variety of ways:
  •  Be a host at one of the Après Ski parties (8 10 each week). Duties include arriving early to setup the tables and staying a little later to put everything away. During the party you make sure that water pitchers are full and the food tables stay neat, not to mention welcoming newcomers and enjoying the company of “old” friends!
  • Since every member must now sign-in at each party, 3-4 members are needed to greet and facilitate this.
  • When you ski or board with the group keep an eye out for who’s showing the most improvement and who’s being most helpful/friendly. At the end of the season LGG recognizes the Most Improved Skier/Boarder and presents the Nancy Macey Spirit Award to the person(s) who have best represented the warmth, energy, and enthusiasm of founding member Nancy Macey.

Other Ways to be Involved

Many LGG members enjoy sharing their enthusiasm for winter sports with others by volunteering, and the Summit County area offers abundant opportunities. If after you’ve signed up to help at an LGG gathering, you have more time to share, the following list may help:
Summit County Community and Senior Center – check their newsletter – opportunities abound – Contact candsc@co.summit.co.us ; 970-668-2940
Senior Winter Games – this awesome fundraiser (see photos and story in this blog) was created and is manned entirely by volunteers, so opportunities abound. Niki Vincze at the SCCSC has a sign-up book for the various committees. You can also contact Barb Becker bbleeski@q.com for the names of specific committee leaders.

Après Ski Parties

Most après ski parties will be held on Thursdays at the SCCSC on County Rd. 1004 in Frisco from 3 5 p.m. starting Dec. 7. No matter where you ski or ride that day, you are invited to bring a pot luck hors d’oeuvre, dessert, or beverage to share. Sharing yummy food, a drink, and your adventures with like-minded folks is a great way to make new friends and keep from getting old! No gathering 12/28; Tuesday meeting 1/23, rather than Thursday 1/25.
As mentioned above, these gatherings are dependent on your eagerness to volunteer. Eight to ten friendly hosts assist the Party Coordinators in the setup and takedown of the tables and chairs, keep the food tables neat, and visit with the other members. Additionally, Jeanne Belli and Bill Tracy need your help assisting with the new SCCSC policy of weekly sign-ins by all who attend. Sign-up at a meeting.
Finally, these events provide the opportunity for you to express your appreciation to the volunteer guides at the local resorts on 50+ Ski With Us Days at Keystone and Breckenridge.

Our 2016-2017 Season

Welcome to the Loosey Goosey Group’s 28th year! Our membership is comprised of local and visiting seniors who enjoy skiing and riding together at local resorts. To help extend and celebrate the joys of on-mountain winter sports, our group organizes weekly “off-mountain” apres ski parties where members can gather and share the many joys of life here in Summit County’s high country. The popular potluck parties are held most Thursdays December through March.

Member Recognition

As the season winds down, members are asked to submit their recommendations for recipients of the Most Improved Skier Award and the Will and Lil Award. The first is self-explanatory; the second is named for early founders who represented the welcoming, helpful attitude that has always been the admired spirit of the Loosey Goosey Group. For the 2015-16 season, Terry Principe received the Most Improved Skier Award, and Marian and Bob Giordano, who, along with helping/welcoming everyone, have also guided, hosted, and helped organize us for years, earned the Will and Lil Award. This year nominations due March 2 & Awards will be presented on March 16.
